From Learning to Leadership

After learning new powers of observation, reflective practice, and ensemble intelligence, something amazing starts to happen.

Almost without effort, our new capacities evolve into a creative, consensual, and powerful form of leadership.

At our best, we learn together. Learning thrives in relationships. When we engage the world, with curiosity and creativity, new possibilities reveal themselves. When we do it with others, we guide each other.

Research shows, in fact, that the most effective teaching strategy is “cross-peer tutoring”–in others words, learners teaching other learners. To be sure, we all benefit from the insights and experiences of masters in any field. But to embed learning into our lives, we need to engage others and act on our new understandings.

When this happens, we start to move into collaborative leadership.

As you take your journey from Learning to Leading, explore some of the readings, videos, and activities in this unit. Read them in the order presented or skip around. Read them in one sitting or explore one a day. Explore them alone or join a group of peers in the program.
