A New Mindset

In the first three modules, we focused on helping you learn about and strengthen three foundational dimensions of future ready leadership – the power of observation, reflective practice and ensemble intelligence.

In this module, our focus moves to a fourth dimension of future ready leadership – shaping the leaders you lead by helping them to learn and grow

Why?  As legendary General Electric CEO Jack Welch put it, “Before you are a leader, success is all abut growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others.”

That shift in focus has profound implications for your developmental trajectory as a leader.  In fact, it requires you to cultivate a whole new mindset – one that readies you to:

  • discern patterns of thought and behavior in others
  • recognize when you should prioritize helping others to gain new capabilities
  • create learning and growth conditions to support your reports, teams and organization
  • integrate fostering growth and development in others into your professional identity skillset

Simultaneously meeting your daily leadership responsibilities, continuing your own learning AND helping others learn make for a very challenging set of endeavors.  But they’re all essential to successful leadership.

Your turn

As a thought experiment to get you started, think of an individual you work with.  It could be someone who currently reports to you, a teammate or a peer. Then complete this exercise on page 2 of the workbook.
